Why The World Needs Weirdos Like You!
by Wayfarer Stargazer
How do you define “normal?”
The Merriam-Webster dictionary describes it as conforming to a type, standard, or regular pattern. In other words, everyday, ordinary. Unchanging.
Having been a people watcher my whole life, I can safely say that the people who effortlessly eschew being like everyone else, those who see “normal” and cringe, are the people who end up creating or perfecting the new paradigms we live with.
There was a time when the idea of smartphones was Sci-Fi. Now we each have a supercomputer in our pockets. The mind that asks “what if?” made smart phones and all of our technological advances possible. Those people who see how things are and then imagine how they can be improved are the individuals who dictate which direction our global consciousness moves.
That is what the weirdos do; cause examination through dissecting the status quo. In other words, we ask questions and do not accept things as they are if we feel they can be better. Ironically the ones called the weirdos are becoming the majority. Do you know what that means? Normal? It’s about to be redefined again.
The World Needs Weirdos Like You To Force It To Change!
When a thinker calls out old and outdated ideals, society is forced to either look at itself and examine what has gone wrong or bury the voice that brought the issue to question. When that voice becomes well over 100,000 well there’s no burying the very people society consists of is there?
Not just here in America but across the planet, society is at a point of shift.
We don’t want to waste our lives at jobs we hate anymore and now have desires to create and learn. Normal is being redefined.
People don’t want to hate each other over unnecessary attributes like skin color or nationality. Normal is being redefined.
Women are becoming equal to men and in some areas surpassing us while men now realize they can pursue passions that don’t involve being a sentient wallet. Normal is being redefined.
Various spiritual practices are again at our forefront and organized religion is again under the microscope. Normal is being redefined.
You see, we brought about these changes. The thinkers and weirdos challenged the idea of what we all see as normal so much everyone started different questions. Now we see our society for what it is and now we can improve it.
In the year 2020, change is all but a forgone conclusion and we have to decide what that change is going to look like. It’s going to be you, yes you Odd Family, who decide what our world will look, feel and sound like in the coming decade.
On a more surface level, the world needs us to provide the color and flavor to life. Can you imagine how dull everything would be without that spark of creativity we call art? The creative mind, the mind that cannot be contained or quantified, is severely underappreciated and overworked.
I live in Denver and I’m happy to be part of such a creative community here. We have artists and creators of every stripe in this city and the surrounding suburbs. You can feel the influence of the weirdos all over. You’d be hard pressed to walk down a street and not see some amazing mural painted on the side of a building or an electrical box having been painted.
Without us the world would be grey, lifeless and dull. We have the light of life in us and we show it through our uniqueness and self expression. Remember that the next time you think you’re being “too weird.” Your wild clothes or overly designed hairstyle may bring someone out of their shell.
“Millennials and Zoomers, listen up!
We are about to become the New Guard and we get to dictate the New Normal.
Society needed us to ask questions like “What If..?” to advance our ways of thinking, challenge old prejudices and discover new technologies like our forebears.
If you thought you didn’t have a purpose or haven’t done enough, be kind to yourself. Just having thoughts and sharing them elevates someone who hasn’t seen the world through your eyes. Your perspective is necessary. Your visions, ideas and conjectures are all necessary.
Keep thinking out of the cube.”
